Foreign Correspondent Training Course

Going on Assignment in Prague July 2023

In Foreign Correspondent Training Course hosted by Transitions, 12 participants from the US, Argentina, Poland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic learned about what it takes to be a foreign correspondent. From July 8 to July 23, Going on Assignment in Prague faculty of industry professionals taught participants a number of important skills and techniques for effective interviewing and multimedia reporting, they also found out what the ethics of journalism are and what it is like to report from a foreign country. Speakers included journalists Raphael Minder from The Financial Times, Mark D. Harmon, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Silvie Lauder from Respekt, Michael Kahn from Reuters, and Will Tizard from RFE/RL. Alongside working on their stories, participants took a tour of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, they visited Economia publishing house etc. There were many opportunities for them to network and socialize, for instance at a local Czech restaurant, or during the four free days they had for exploring Prague. The course ended with a presentation of their stories and a farewell lunch on a boat.
