Internships are based in Prague, but partially remote, with weekly meetings in and out of the Transitions office.
Founded in 1999, Transitions is an independent media and education organisation based in Prague. Through journalism, media development, media and digital literacy, and international collaboration, we work to strengthen democratic resilience and support informed, engaged communities across Central and Eastern Europe and beyond.
Alongside our flagship publication, Transitions, we support independent media, train journalists, educators and community leaders, develop innovative educational programmes, and explore new ways of telling stories through multimedia and digital platforms.
As a Digital Journalism & Storytelling Intern, you’ll become part of our editorial team, contributing to both published journalism and new multimedia formats while gaining hands-on experience in an international media organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to regular short-form news content across Transitions’ digital platforms;
- Collaborating with editorial interns on creating short form content to feature their stories;
- Researching ongoing news stories to create short form content explainer videos;
- Monitoring ongoing news stories to create long-form content, such as YouTube video explainers, podcasts, multimedia visual projects, etc.
- Interns are encouraged to develop and lead one area throughout their internship, rather than only completing assigned tasks.
Desired skills:
Journalism experience (digital media, writing and/or editing); experience creating content for digital and social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or similar ); regional knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and/or the former Soviet Union. We don’t require any language skills, but any knowledge of languages of our coverage region, especially Russian, would be very welcome, as well as interest in emerging digital storytelling tools (including AI-assisted workflows) is an advantage.
In short, we are looking for curious, proactive people who enjoy experimenting with new storytelling formats and contributing their own ideas.
Schedule: approx. 10-15 hours per week
Conditions: This internship is unpaid. An internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with Transitions. However, the interns can use their supervisors and colleagues as references when applying for jobs.
