Co-Founder Platform Authentieke Journalistiek

Bas obtained a degree in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the University of Utrecht. He has been active as an independent journalist during the people’s uprising in Oaxaca, Mexico, an experience which instilled in him a lasting passion for independent reporting. He is the co-founder of the Platform of Authentic Journalism (PAJ). His last research brought him to Mozambique, where he investigated the upcoming gas industry. Bas is currently working on the Shell Papers. PAJ has filed Freedom of Information Act requests for “a copy of all government documents sent by Shell, sent to Shell, or otherwise pertaining to Shell and any of its close to 1600 subsidiaries,” and it’s created an online platform where the public can follow the path of those requests and collaboratively comb through and annotate the responses.
