Dr. Michael T. Martinez is a professor in the College of Communication & Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His research interests include media law, journalism history, and visual political communication. Before entering academia, Dr. Martinez worked for 26 years as a photojournalist, graphics editor, and online producer at outlets such as the Associated Press, the Detroit News, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He covered two Olympic Games for the AP and later worked with four Olympic Organizing Committees. Dr. Martinez has served in leadership roles with the National Press Photographers Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
