Day 2 (Friday) 19.9.
9:30 – 12:30: Multimedia Reporting (Nedim Dervisbegovic, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty)
- What should be included in a multimedia journalist’s toolkit (hardware and software);
- How to evaluate a story and decide what multimedia elements work best;
- How to record and edit high-quality video;
- How to judge basic visual elements;
- Storyboarding;
- Shooting photo essays and soundslides;
- Thinking about distribution on the web.
14:30 – 18:00: Afternoon assignments in the field
Day 3 (Saturday) 20.9.
10:00 – 13:30: Basics of video storytelling. Best practices (Dragan Milojevic)
14:30 – 18:00: Shooting basics and video editing (in Adobe Premier Elements 12)
Day 4 (Sunday) 21.9.
10:00 – 13:30: Continuation of shooting and editing fundamentals (Dragan Milojevic)
14:30 – 18:00: Publishing videos. Troubleshooting. Correcting mistakes (Dragan Milojevic)
Day 5 (Monday) 22.9
10:00 – 13:30: Location news gathering (Will Tizard, Time Out/ Anglo-American University)
- How to plan and organize a location shoot;
- What factors should determine what tools and approaches;
- How to achieve technical excellence in location interviews;
- Common hazards to good sound;
- Lighting the subject for all situations;
- The importance of good B-roll/thinking about atmosphere;
- Shooting for the edit.
14:30 – 18:00: Field assignments and site visits
Day 6 (Tuesday) 23.9.
10:00 – 13:30: Reporting for Radio (Rob Cameron)
14:30 – 18:00: Intensive session on audio editing (Rob Cameron)
- Writing for radio: how to be clear and concise, but not boring;
- How to structure, script, record, edit, and mix sound-rich audio pieces;
- Use of sound: how to liven up your reports and create a sense of place;
- Interview techniques: what makes a good radio interview;
- Package techniques: how to get the most out of a story and produce great radio;
- How to make the most out of stringing for a foreign news organization;
- How to get your editors’ attention.
