Media and Technology: Innovative Journalism in a Contested Political Space
In an increasingly unstable world, independent media are facing unprecedented challenges. Journalism’s role in a democracy to represent the public interest is being actively undermined by declining audiences, economic (un)sustainability, and business and political interests. All these challenges are, in some form, connected to recent and rapid technological developments that have altered the way information spreads.
Despite these challenges, digital technology still holds untapped potential and opportunities for the media. Media entrepreneurs all over the world are working on innovative business models, ways of reporting, reaching their audience and diversifying their voice. In a world where democratic values are questioned, many are becoming acutely aware of the need for reliable and well-researched stories. #PragueMediaPoint
