Going on Assignment – July 2020 Online Course

Transitions ran our very first Foreign Correspondent Online Training Course from July 20 – 30, an online version of the Going on Assignment Course.

Students from five different countries joined us to learn essential skills for foreign reporting from working journalists from The New York Times, the BBC, Reuters, The Associated Press, and many more. Check out the full curriculum here.

Participants listened to valuable advice about writing feature stories from abroad, pitching to editors back home, and how to get set up as a freelance journalist in a foreign country. Attendees also received individual feedback on the stories they wrote.

This “experiment” in running the course online turned out well, and we can’t wait to do it again in the fall! If you have a passion for this line of work and want to acquire some practical skills, join us for the upcoming November 2020 foreign reporting course!

Since 2005 this course has provided hundreds of participants from around the world with the necessary skills to hit the ground running and produce compelling content. Our journalism instruction is an outgrowth of TOL’s years of experience in publishing an online newsmagazine and working with foreign correspondents worldwide.
