Prague Media Point conference 2019

Prague, 5-7 December 2019

It is our pleasure to announce that this year’s Prague Media Point Conference, under the title “What’s Working,” will take place on 5-7 December in Prague, Czech Republic. Scholars from all disciplines and interdisciplinary fields are kindly invited to submit their abstracts.

Tomes have been written and numerous events have been held over the past decade lamenting the plight of the media in the modern world. Much less attention has been paid to what’s actually working to challenge negative trends, especially beyond the success stories of the big, well-funded players in the United States and Western Europe. But hopeful examples do exist that are having real impact, with the possibility of adaption and replication.

The 2019 edition of Prague Media Point will highlight these types of inspiring examples and more. We will offer a mix of scholarly presentations, including keynote addresses; sessions with innovators explaining their solutions; and networking opportunities to promote the exchange of know-how. As in years past, the conference will have a special regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe, though we look forward to covering cases and trends from other parts of the world.

We encourage submissions of abstracts that focus on examples in the media that appear to be working and generating impact in the following subjects and topics, though this list is not exhaustive:

Technology in editorial work and content delivery; engagement through social media; examples of Solutions or Constructive Journalism; trust-building techniques; different forms of storytelling; membership models; youth-driven news delivery; innovative business and ownership models; diversity in the newsroom; minority media; and data journalism.

We welcome proposals from scholars from any discipline, inter-discipline, or scholarly field.

Special opportunity: On the afternoon of December 7, we will offer a workshop in Solutions Journalism for interested conference participants.

Please submit your 500-word abstracts and a short bio to Download our abstract template.
